Much of Europe currently resembles Siberia and Spain is no exception. Snow has fallen not only inland but also at sea level in areas including Barcelona and the Basque Country. Temperatures were expected to fall to 11 degrees below zero in northern provinces.
Meanwhile southern Spain has by no means escaped the cold snap. Temperatures were expected to go down to minus four in inland areas of the province of Malaga (mainly Antequera and Ronda) on Thursday night, falling almost to freezing point in the city. By Thursday lunch-time there had already been reports of snowfall in Alfarnate.
The chilly weather is expected to stay with us throughout Friday and Saturday, with temperatures starting to rise again on Sunday.
