Ruth Lorenzo: «Sometimes it’s been hard, but I_just love singing»
Ruth Lorenzo.
Ruth Lorenzo was born in Murcia, Spain. When she was 12 years old her family moved to America and Ruth was able to get involved with music at school for the first time. Four years later she returned to Spain, but was unable to continue her singing lessons. At 19 she joined a rock band and toured Spain for 3 years. In 2008 she auditioned for the “X -Factor” and made it through to the eigth week. She has since toured the UK and signed a record contract with EMI. She is datingBenji Weeratunge, one of her dancers in th X-factor tour who is now working as a Commercial dance teacher in the Spanish TV show Fama a Bailar.
You have dabbled with musical theatre, classical styles and even rock music in the past. How would you define the style of your début album?
I would say that the music I have been working on is a reflection of all the things that I have done in the past. Its epic, has the electric guitar element and classic at the same time.
It is rumoured that you have collaborated with some big names to write the songs for your album, how did that come about?
I have had the chance to work with and meet amazing people and great talents. It’s been quite a journey.
Would it mean more to you to have a number one in Spain, the UK or the US?
I think I would LOVE a number one in any country, but if I have to choose maybe I would choose UK.
As well as some of your new material, will you be singing some of your X-Factor favourites during the concert?
Yes of course, I will sing some of the songs that I sang on the show. Some of those songs are my favourite songs ever, so I always love to sing them.
A lot of the contestants from your series of the X-Factor have gone on to be fairly successful. Is there still a strong element of competition between you, and do you keep in touch?
Yes, it’s amazing to see what different paths we have all taken and how well everyone is doing. I keep in touch with most of them; Alex, JLS and especially with Diana Vickers - we have become really close in this last 2 years and I could say she is one of the most important people that are around me in this time of my life. I am so proud of her!
What are the drawbacks of being catapulted to stardom through a reality TV show?
I am really lucky because I have Spain to run away to....but I can’t think of anything that is negative from this experience. I think it is beautiful how people stop me in the street and just share their love. This lifestyle can be really lonely and those are the things that remind you never to give up and to keep on going. I feel very happy with how my life has grown.
How do you feel to be performing at the Marbella bullring, given that at sometimes in your life it seemed that you may have had to abandon your passion for singing?
It is amazing! Such a big show in my country....I am not going to believe it when I’m on stage. It’s always been one of my dreams. I have never abandoned my passion for singing but it is true that it becomes very hard at times to keep the fight. I always say that I am like the bulls when they go into the bullring, until their last breath they are still fighting. So that’s what I’m going to do, give the best show I can.
We understand that you are currently living in England. Is that a strategic move for your career, and will you return to Spain one day?
I love it in the UK. I love London, it is such a beautiful city and it inspires my song writing so much. I’m planning to stay here for a few more years. I don’t think I could move back to Spain full time just yet, maybe in the future.
