Stars shine for Haiti
Star-studded event. Kenny Lynch entertains dinner guests att he charity gala at La Quinta
The stars truly came out in numbers and shone brightly at the extraordinary gala for the orphans of Haiti organised by Talk Radio Europe Boss Maurice Boland. They included one of UK’s funniest comedians Stan Boardman , singer Kenny Lynch, ex world snooker champ Dennis Taylor and ex Welsh football captain Mike England, who flew in especially for the occasion.
Friday 5th got off to a shaky start. Estepona Golf’s Rory Leader had kindly offered his golf course free of charge after hearing Maurice’s appeal for help for the orphans of Haiti; the problem was that it had rained heavily days before and had all but waterlogged the course. However Darren Clark, Estepona Golf professional, saw to it that the competition would go ahead ‘no matter what’. The course was so wet that Stan Boardman said he ‘swam’ up the third fairway! But it was all played with great spirits.
La Quinta Golf was the setting for the evening’s gala, attended by some 275 people The ballroom looked sensational, set off by the brilliance of Nigel Davis Soto Events lighting and sound and the candelabra-topped tables and decorations by Laura Charles were stunning. Photographers both British and Spanish were in abundance as was Antena 3 Television.
Representing Marbella Town Hall was the local councillor for tourism, José Luis Hernández, who congratulated Maurice Boland and the organisers for “contributing to the great reaction Marbella has shown as regards the Haiti humanitarian catastrophe”.
“This initiative has been the most successful one carried out in Marbella and reflects the high degree of commitment of our British and international community with the rest of our society and particularly with those going through the nightmare of devastation in Haiti”, he added.
Also in attendance was the British Consul to Malaga, Steve Jones: “This was an excellent example of solidarity at its best”, he said. “The event was at a beautiful location, perfectly organised, with a delicious meal and excellent entertainment. We particularly enjoyed the mix of well established entertainers like Stan and Kenny as well as introducing new talents such as Christian and Rebecca.”
As well as Stan Boardman and Kenny Lynch, the stage at La Quinta Golf at the Haiti gala saw acts such as Welsh tenor Stephen Lloyd-Morgan, the Marbella Big Band, Mel Williams and Wow Factor winner and runner up,_Christain Fa and Rebecca Tate.
