Thirty villagers from Villanueva del Trabuco were celebrating yesterday when the draw for Spain’s famous Christmas lottery revealed the number 43802 for one of the fifth prizes. Thirty of the winning tickets (décimos), now worth 5,000 euros each, were bought from a local bar owner who brought them from Palma de Mallorca.
The El Gordo prize this year was three million euros for each of the winning tickets, divided into ten ‘décimos’. The winning number, 78294 was sold in the Tetuán district of Madrid and winners included staff of the Viajes Marsans tourism business, who couldn’t believe their luck. Many Latin American immigrants also had a share of the good fortune.
In Marbella 180,000 euros of prize money was shared by holders of the number after El Gordo - 78295.
