According to the online edition of ‘Vanity Fair’, Spain’s Princess Letizia is the world’s most stylish woman. Readers were invited to vote and the final list has been published in the September issue of the magazine. Last year the future queen was pipped at the post by Princess Mathilde of Belgium.
Letizia’s style, copied by women throughout the Spain, is the perfect combination of elite and high street fashion. Some of her favourite Spanish designers include Adolfo Domínguez, Felipe Varela and Miguel Palacio, while Mango, Massimo Dutti and Zara are said to be her preferred high street labels.
Hiding flaws
Third on the world’s best-dressed list as compiled by Vanity Fair is Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, who unfailingly gets it right both on and off the red carpet by opting for simple, long, flowing dresses in neutral colours which hide flaws while highlighting her best features. Cruz, currently on a European tour promoting her latest film ‘Los abrazos rotos’ with director Pedro Almodóvar, says she is a fan of Chanel and Christian Louboutin shoes while her favourite store on the other side of the Atlantic is Maxfield.
Originality
The eccentric Duchess of Alba, Spain’s wealthiest aristocrat, makes it on to the list for her ‘original’ fashion sense. When it comes to style, it could be said that the 83 year old is an advocate of the ‘more is more’ rule. She also admits that she is her own "fashion icon" although Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent are her two favourite designer labels.
No age limit
US president Barack Obama also figures on the best-dressed male list alongside Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig.
The inclusion of American expressionist painter Cy Twombly, 81, on the best- dressed list proves that as far as Vanity Fair is concerned, style and grace have no age limit.
