Eleven young amateur actors, Leah Bell-Jones, Simon Bolland, Alicia Brand, Janelle De La Rosa, Kaigan Garcia, Natalie Anne McCarthy, Jenny Parker, Nifa Sellors, Rueben Victor, Larisa Volitskaia and Alba Wink, have been chosen from twenty-five applicants to feature in a television advertisement that focuses on children’s problems, particularly those of sexual and physical abuse and bullying.
The production team was formed in June, since when they have developed a storyboard, recruited and auditioned the actors and coached them so that filming could begin on Friday. Caroline Olivero, Lead Manager of Childline Gibraltar, said "Childline is extremely grateful for the enthusiastic and talented group of students who joined the production team. We are also grateful to Gold Productions, PointONE and others who have supported our efforts. Without this team, we would not have been able to produce the advert.
Distribution of the final production will start in September through the local media and will also be shown in schools as part of the next academic year’s programme.
"We want young people to understand that they can call Childline Gibraltar in complete confidence about any problems or worries they are facing, at any point in their lives. We hope that this new production will appeal to the 10-18 age group. To achieve this, we feature young people dealing with the sort of problems they may encounter." She added that adults can also call Childline Gibraltar to discuss any worries or concerns they may have about their own or other people’s children. "We are there to listen and, where appropriate, give information and guidance,’ said Caroline.
The helpline is 8008 (only valid on Gibraltar phone networks) and is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the year. The website for further information is www.childline.gi
