Elderly man dies at home after waiting an hour for an ambulance
The victim lived in a flat on Calle Muñoz Degrain. / ÁLEX LOBERA
A 74 year old man died in Malaga yesterday after waiting an hour for an ambulance after he slipped and fell on the bathroom floor at home. The victim, who lived in a flat on Calle Muñoz Degrain in the Huelin district of the city, suffered heart problems and had been fitted with a pacemaker.

The man's wife had called the emergency services for help at 5.48 p.m. and an hour later the Local Police arrived at the property. The victim, who was conscious, was on the bathroom floor blocking the door from inside, which forced the officers to call the fire service for assistance.

There are conflicting versions as to the time the emergency services were called out. The police say that they called 061 for an ambulance several times. The emergency services admit that they did receive several calls but say that at first they did not consider the case to be an emergency. The first ambulance arrived at the house at 7 p.m. and a doctor stayed with the man for half an hour. Considering the seriousness of the victim's condition, a UVI ambulance was called out at around 7.30 p.m. The man was pronounced dead an hour later.
