The Government’s last minute decision to waive the toll on the AP-7 between San Pedro Alcántara and Estepona last weekend produced a timid increase of just 13 per cent in traffic on the road on Saturday, the first day of the summer holidays for many.

Marbella Town Hall has described the Government’s measure as “insufficient” and has called for the toll to be waived for the whole of July and August to reduce congestion on the diversion in place while the underpass work is taking place. Meanwhile last weekend a number of drivers were caught out thinking the toll had been waived all the way from Marbella to Estepona and found themselves having to pay 4.15 euros.
