This Sunday, Parque Batería in Montemar will celebrate its one millionth visitor with a large, free public party. Since opening in July 2007, residents and visitors from all around the region have flocked to the 70,000 square-metre, landscaped park on the outskirts of Torremolinos.
Mayor Pedro Fernández Montes will open the event, which will include a children’s theatre, dance shows, orchestras, free refreshments and the official millionth visitor will win a trip to the Caribbean or North Africa.
Councillor Encarnación Navarro said it was “an historic day” for the municipality as Parque Batería confirms its place as one of the most important environmental and leisure areas on the Costa del Sol.
Situated in Montemar Alto, five minutes from central Torremolinos, the park has spectacular views over La Carihuela and towards Málaga and the bay of Fuengirola. The abundance of mature trees, lakes and play areas combine to see the area become increasingly popular year on year.
It’s hoped by local residents that the party this weekend will encourage the Town Hall, and others along the Coast, to show the public’s support of well-maintained green zones.
