Visitors to the Aula del Mar museum in Malaga are now taken back through Spanish and international naval history thanks to a new exhibition of 12 model ships. Some have required more than ten years of work, as is the case of the centrepiece of the collection, a replica of the H.M.S.
Victory, the flagship of Nelson’s fleet which played a decisive role in the victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. “You have to like history and have a lot of patience to spend ten years making a model”, said the Victory’s builder, José Miralla.
The models, which also include the Juan Sebastián Elcano, the Alfonso XII and the Santísima Trinidad are made from wood and other natural materials with a copper finish to prevent their deterioration. They are faithful replicas of the originals thanks to thorough research.
