Malaga is in the midst of trying to sign up new blood, and next season will soon be upon us. Now is the time to get acquainted with Malaga’s football set-up and join the ranks of the season ticket holders.
Malaga’s home ground is La Rosaleda located in the northern part of the city. It is easily accessed from all directions by following the road signs for Ciudad Jardín until you see its tall stands dominating the skyline. The stadium is close to a large shopping centre of the same name and across the road from the Diario SUR and SUR in English head office.
Now that the stadium is completed the crowd capacity is around 30,000, all seated.
The usually dry Río Guadalmedina borders the ground and anyone walking from the city centre merely has to follow the river northwards for a relatively short distance until they reach it.
As a result of popular demand the Foreign Supporters Club organizes a coach from Marbella to the ground on match days. With pick up points on the journey it is an ideal way for those who either are not familiar with the route or maybe just prefer that form of trouble-free transport in order to see a football match.
Season Tickets
The purchase of a season ticket is really well worth considering even if, for one reason or another, you can’t go to all the nineteen games.
This is primarily because individual purchases for the games with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla could well come to more than the price of a season ticket and also it gives the ticket holder a secure seat in the ground and they can avoid long queues at the ticket booths.
The goal ends
The south-facing stand behind the goal is called “Fondo”. It is constructed in two levels, lower and upper (“Bajo” and “Alto”). The seating is arranged in areas and then seats, which range from area 201, directly behind the goal, to area 245, right at the back and behind a corner flag. It is behind this goal that Malaga’s oldest and most famous supporters club - the Frente Bokerón - has its seats.
The north-facing end behind the goal is named rather unsurprisingly “Gol”, and it is similar to the Fondo end with the area’s numbers going from 301 at the front to 348 at the back.
Both Fondo and Gol have huge electronic screens stuck on top of them and are easily seen from any part of the ground.
Tribuna
This is the East-facing stand that runs along the Avenida de la Palmilla. The stand has been divided into four sections for which prices vary depending on their distance from the halfway line.
Preferencia stand
This is the west-facing stand that backs onto the Río Guadalmedina and looks directly across the ground towards the new Tribuna stand.
The stand has also been divided into four sectors which vary depending on their distance from the halfway line. This stand is cheaper than the Tribuna mainly because afternoon games will be facing the setting sun.
VIP Primera Class
Last season Malaga introduced the VIP Primera Class which proved to be a great success. As a result for this season they have increased the area to include the Preferencia as well as the Tribuna stand. Ticket holders will be able to enjoy drinks and canapés both before the game and at half time and they will be able to follow the game from their private boxes or seats in detail thanks to the aid of television screens.
When to buy
Tickets have already gone on sale for both existing season ticket holders and ‘newbies’, however renewals have until Sunday 5th July to get their tickets before the new prices apply to them. They can still change their seats once they have renewed on the 7th and 8th July. Tickets can be obtained from the club shop in the Larios centre Malaga and the club will be open all this weekend (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) so that those who have not yet renewed or bought their tickets at the reduced price can have the opportunity to do so.
The club is again offering the facility of paying in four interest free installments. Don’t forget to take with you photocopies of your passport or residencia and the originals, also your bank details if you want to pay in four installments.
