Fifty-seven African migrants, including eight babies, rescued off the coast of Tarifa
Eight small children and babies were among the occupants of the boat. / AGENCIES
A small boat carrying 57 sub-Saharan migrants, among them eight small children and babies, was intercepted by the Guardia Civil on Thursday in the Gibraltar Strait some ten miles off Tarifa.

Seventeen of the adult occupants of the boat were women and 32 were men. Two of them, a woman who was seven months pregnant and a man who fainted, were taken to a health centre. The rest of the passengers were in good health. The emergency services received a call from the boat itself, stating that they did not know where they were. A fishing vessel later gave the exact position of the boat and the migrants were rescued and brought to shore.
