David Valadez, victim of threats

Since the details of the Astapa case were revealed at the end of last week, the Mayor of Estepona, David Valadez, has admitted that the last couple of years have not been easy. He claims that he and his colleague Cristina Rodríguez have suffered “multiple threats” since the Astapa case broke out. While he said that it would have been easy to resign they were convinced that “things only change from inside”.
“Over the last five years our political presence has been undesirable. The worst is to come, however; we are well aware that Pandora’s Box has been opened”, explained Valadez at a press conference last Friday, his first public appearance since it was revealed that he was responsible for reporting the alleged corruption in Estepona Town Hall to the police in the first place.
