Six more blue flags than last year
Flags are awarded for quality.
This year there will be a total of 27 blue flags flying on Costa del Sol beaches which is 6 more than there were in 2008 and puts the province at the head of the list in Andalucía.
The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) flags, awarded for quality, have been given to 11 beaches and four ports in 11 municipalities.

Seven of the blue flag beaches are in Fuengirola: Los Boliches-Las Gaviotas, Torreblanca, Carvajal, Santa Amalaia, El Castillo-Ejido, Fuengirola and San Francisco. Another four are in Marbella (Artola, Venus-Bajadilla, Casablanca and Guadalmina-San Pedro); three in Estepona, two in Benalmádena and Nerja and one each in Algarrobo, Torrox, Malaga (Misericordia), Mijas and Manilva.
