Easter processions

April 5th, Palm Sunday, sees the start of the religious activities and a total of eight processions will be taking place in Malaga city. These include children’s favourite ‘Pollinica’, which depicts Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. This particular procession will pass along the Alameda at noon and down Calle Larios half an hour later. Another six processions will parade through the city’s streets on Holy Monday, including the ‘Pasión’ and ‘Cautivo’; there will be six others on Tuesday and Wednesday, seven on Thursday and eight on Good Friday. ‘El Resucitado’, which celebrates the resurrection of Christ, sets off from the San Julian church at 10.30 a.m. and will be at Calle Larios at around 12.30 p.m.
Over in the village of Riogordo in the Axarquía, more than 500 local people will be performing their annual Passion Play, known as ‘El Paso de Riogordo’, which consists of acting out the different scenes of the Passion and Death of Christ on a natural stage. These performances take place on Good Friday and Holy Saturday at 4.30 p.m. Visit your local Town Hall website for information about processions and their designated routes.
