consumer magazine report
A few weeks ago reporters from the magazine made ten taxi journeys in the city to evaluate the quality of service, level of comfort, cleanliness and information available to passengers, and they repeated this in cities all over Spain. According to their evaluation, Malaga passes the test overall and the city's taxis are praised for being accessible to passengers with mobility problems. There are 30 specially adapted taxis for the disabled and it is expected that there will be a further 39 by the end of 2009.
Clear displaying of rates in Malaga cabs is also a good point, and despite the fact that taxi fares in Spain went up by an average 5.2 per cent last year, which is almost four times the CPI change of 1.4 per cent, Malaga is among the cities in which the increase was less (4.9 per cent). More expensive fares can be found in La Coruña (8.8 per cent more expensive than last year) and Oviedo (7.7 per cent).
However, Malaga's taxis lag behind in other aspects such as level of comfort. According to the report, only half of the taxis put to the test in the city had electric windows, while paying by credit card wasn't an option in any of them.
