“Brits who run down the government and way of life both back at home and in Spain get me angry!”
NERJA. Dorothy Price gives an interview to Punto Radio. / DAVID ANDREWS
Dorothy Price is a woman of many talents. Born and bred in Nottingham, (UK) she went from the local grammar school to St. Anne’s, Oxford, to read Modern Languages. She then went on to do teacher training and gained a second degree and PhD in Psychology. After marrying Tom Price in 1982, she retired and decided to start a new life in Spain in 1987. After the death of her husband in 1993, she decided to stay on in Nerja, and developed an interest in Spanish history from information about Roman ruins in Torrox Costa. She worked as a voluntary interpreter at Nerja Health Centre for ten years and founded the Nerja History Group in 2002.
What fascinates you most about Nerja?
It’s still very much a Spanish town, despite 30% of foreign residents.
Which British habits can’t you shake no matter hard you try?
Cups of tea: first thing in the morning, and at four o’clock.
What gets you angry?
Brits who run down the government and way of life, both back at home and here in Spain.
Give us three great figures from history...
Julius Caesar, Joan of Arc and William Shakespeare.
What are you most proud of?
The Nerja History Group, and all those who help run it, and contribute their particular knowledge.
Do you have any regrets?
Not having learnt more Spanish earlier in my life.
What is your favourite Spanish food?
Paella - what else?
Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met?
Lord Longford - a fascinating mix of contradictions.
Tell us something not many people know about you...
That I never learned to drive a car.
Which newspapers do you read? (apart from SUR in English!)
The Week, and occasionally: El País and the Guardian.
Define your character in five words
Curiosity; sense of humour, and a walker.
