Two people arrested in Marbella for selling heavy plant machinery stolen in the UK

The police have broken up a group accused of stealing heavy plant machinery in the UK and selling it on in Spain. Two people have been arrested, six others are implicated, and eight machines valued at 1.2 million euros have been seized in Malaga and Galicia.

The suspects, based in Marbella, are believed to have changed the chassis number of the vehicles in order to send them to Spain where they were then sold to other European countries filled with drugs.

According to the police, the sales to third countries were used as a way of hiding shipments of drugs, and officers involved in the case have seized some 25 kilograms of hashish.

The illegal activity was uncovered by police investigating a group of British drug dealers based in Marbella, in 2007.

The arrested suspects sold the machinery on the internet and once filled with drugs, exported them across Europe. One of the suspects, E.C., from Argentina, is believed to have been in charge of advertising the stolen goods online, and introducing potential buyers to A.J.C., a British citizen, who sold the goods to buyers.
