The Civil Guard operation which has seen 13 people including the Mayor of Alcaucín being arrested today involves building detached homes on rural land.
The case allegedly involved the promotion, construction and later sale of the homes, in the main to foreigners.
The Civil Guard operation which has now been named "operación Arcos" saw the arrest of the Mayor of Alcaucín, socialist José Manuel Martín Alba, and 12 others who have apparently been involved in the case, this morning.
The investigations have uncovered that the business people involved apparently paid different amounts of money to different people in positions of authority to be able to carry out the construction activities. Later the homes were allegedly legalised by way of false reports and certificates produced by qualified architects who could alter the property register details.
