What brought you to Spain?
I first came to Spain as a cast member for a show at the theatre in Tivoli World, Benalmádena. That was back in 2002. Once the contract had finished I went back to the UK completely smitten with Andalucía. I returned several times after that on performing contracts and finally made the decision to stay and learn Spanish and as much as possible about the culture in 2005. Most people are disappointed by my reason for coming here, they always want to hear some kind of love story!
Best thing that has happened in your professional life?
Well, I’m still waiting for retirement and I imagine that to be a professional highlight - yes, I can be pretty lazy at times. The best thing so far has been finding another field other than performing that I love.
Best thing that has happened in your personal life?
Recently or ever? Am I only allowed to choose one thing? Well most recent is moving back to Malaga for a number of reasons. Also the love and support I’m shown daily by family and friends (near and far).
Most fanciable person?
I’m going to be really shallow now and only mention the men I think are extremely sexy. Here goes...Gary Dourdon (CSI Las Vegas) he has such mesmerising eyes, another CSI actor, Hill Harper - yum yum, Brad Pitt (just like fine wine he gets better with age) and Hugo Silva (from ‘Los Hombres de Paco’ television series).
What’s on your iPod?
I don’t have one. On my laptop I’ve got a variety of music ranging from musical theatre, R’n’B to flamenco. I’m listening to Esperanza Spalding at the moment.
Most treasured item brought from home to Spain?
My shoe collection, although I still have a ridiculous amount gathering dust in my parents’ loft.
Favourite local bar?
El Kapricho. It’s a modern style tapas bar, reasonably priced, great service and fantastic food.
Three people for a great dinner party...?
George Gershwin, he is one of my favourite composers. Ella Fitzgerald, she was a fantastic artist and worked well with Gershwin, and E Lynn Harris, an American author who I’d love to interview.
Most embarrassing moment?
Moment - more like moments! I definitely have a few of those. When I first arrived I asked for a “McPolla” in McDonald’s which was so embarrassing. I went on a date a few years back to the cinema with a guy I’d fancied for ages, I went to sit down and was so nervous that I didn’t realise they were folding seats, needless to say I fell flat on my ass. I managed not to spill the popcorn, though!
What makes you angry/happy?
The sound of children’s laughter and people having a good time makes me happy. People who play with other people’s emotions, rudeness and lack of consideration make me angry.
Last film you saw?
The last film I saw at the cinema was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Excellent work on make-up and the plot was good. I thought it was far too long, though. I watched The Secret Life of Bees adapted from the book by Sue Monk Kidd. It was an easy watch, the book was a lot more gripping.
