Twenty people had to be evacuated from their homes on Thursday evening after a fire broke out on a second floor flat in a building on Calle Río Riquel in Torremolinos. The fire service received a call from a neighbour at around six o'clock in the evening, who said that smoke was coming from one of the flats in the block.

The emergency services quickly put out the fire, and allowed all of the residents to return to their homes, except for the woman in whose flat the fire started, and her four year old son. Five people had to be treated for smoke inhalation at the nearby health centre, and one person was sent to the Clínico hospital in Malaga after suffering a panic attack.
