The worst damage caused by yesterday's wind storm on the western Costa del Sol was in Estepona. Calls were made to the 112 emergency services once people realised that it wasn't just a normal rainy, windy day and the state meteorological agency confirmed that what was kicking up a storm was in actual fact a small tornado.
Rody Aragón, clown and business owner, whose circus was set up in Estepona on the ground next to Carrefour, watched as the tornado lifted the roof off his big top. Five people were injured on the sight but after being treated on the spot by the 061 medical services, no one had to be taken to hospital.
The tornado also took down two walls in commercial premises in Avenida Puerta del Mar, uprooted solar panels, and removed plants pots from balconies, trees, traffic signs and advertising billboards from their places.
