A total of 16 people have been arrested in connection with a holiday fraud on the Costa del Sol. According to the Spanish National Association of Time Share Companies (ANETC-OTE), the firm Global Vacations promised clients discounts on holiday services, such as hotels and car rental, for a period of 50 years. In exchange they asked for a sum of money, which in some cases was as much as 25,000 euros, to cover membership of their holiday discount club.
The ANETC-OTE, which reported the apparent fraud to the authorities, claimed that the holiday firm, which had two offices in Mijas, used “very aggressive” and even “confusing” sales techniques to attract clients, often on busy Costa del Sol beaches.
