Fernando Moreno's kidnappers had asked his family for 1,000,000 euros

National Police officers are investigating the strange circumstances of the death of Fernando Moreno Espada, a 76 year old Marbella businessman, whose body was found yesterday in a building on the Istán road. Fernando Moreno who owned the company Materiales de Construcción Fernando Moreno SL y Hormigones San Pedro, lived in San Pedro Alcántara and was very well known in Marbella.
Fernando disappeared on Wednesday and his family, who feared kidnapping from the beginning, informed the police when he didn't come back from his daily visit to his cement plant. The businessman's captors apparently demanded 1,000,000 euros in exchange for his release and the family received four calls from them made from the victim's own telephone. The last call they received was at 3 p.m. on Wednesday from a person with a South American accent who said: "He's dead, the body is in the reservoir hut."
That last call led to a search for Fernando, who was found gagged and with his hands tied yesterday lunch time in a small building on a spot known as Arroyo Montero near the motorway.
Until the results of the autopsy are revealed it will not be known whether his death was caused by violence on the part of the kidnappers or a mixture of his age, the blood circulation problems which he suffered from and the cold temperatures.
