Autopsy reveals that baby girl found on Huelin beach was alive when thrown into the sea
HUELIN. The body was discovered on this small sand bank. / CARLOS MORET
The autopsy carried out on the new born baby girl found on Huelin beach in Malaga city, opposite the old tobacco factory, on Sunday morning just after 9.30, revealed that she had water in her lungs, which indicates that she was alive when thrown into the sea.
Originally investigators thought that she was already dead when she had been taken to the shoreline but the discovery of the water in her lungs during the autopsy which was carried out at the Legal Medicine Institute (IML) in the Malaga 'Ciudad de la Justicia' courts on Monday indicates otherwise. The autopsy results also say that she wasn't in the water for very long before she was washed up onto the beach.
Emergency service personnel who arrived on the scene where the baby had been washed up by the sea said that she was white, naked when discovered, and still had the hospital clip attached to the remainder of her umbilical cord, which indicates that she was only a few days old.
Apparently a witness saw a man on the shoreline at 7 o'clock in the morning with a pram and the possibility that it was this individual who threw the baby into the sea before she was later washed up is being investigated.
National Police homicide unit officers are concentrating their efforts on identifying the baby girl and her parents. Their preliminary investigations include examining the recordings from the traffic cameras installed near where she was found and in other parts of the city.
