Nisrin came into the world nine minutes after the clock struck 12 midnight on January 1st, making her the first baby to be born in 2009 in the province of Malaga. Weighing just over three kilos and measuring 50 centimetres, Nisrin Hmrechouka was born by natural birth at the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquía in Vélez-Málaga, and her mother, Aisha Nadira, told reporters that the birth was "very difficult and painful".

Forty-two-year-old Moroccan citizen Aisha is a chef who has been living in Nerja for 14 years. Nisrin is her fifth child, but unlike the birth of the rest of her children, Nisrin's delivery was a lot more complicated. "I was having contractions but the baby didn't seem to be moving so I had to push a lot," she explained.

The second baby born in the province in 2009 was also a girl. Johanna was born at 12.20 a.m.at the Antequera Hospital. The third baby born this year, a boy, was delivered at the Hospital Clínico in Malaga at 12.50 a.m. No babies were delivered at Malaga's Materno Hospital until 6.10 a.m.
