Hundreds of National Police officers have been out on the streets of Malaga city since 8 o'clock this morning on an operation aimed at cracking down on the 'mafias' responsible for the pirating of CDs and DVDs and what is known as the 'Nigerian Lottery' (a scam which involves asking for money upfront to be able to claim a bogus lottery prize).
More than a hundred searches of homes and of 'locutorio' (call and internet centre) businesses have already been carried out in various parts of the city. Those working on the operation include plain clothes officers as well as those in uniform from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP) from other cities such as Madrid as well as from Malaga.
The number of arrests made until now is not yet known but it is estimated at being high.
Various businesses have just been searched in the busy comercial Calle La Unión which joins the Juan XIII bridge with the central bus station.
