Saturday night (May 31st) is opera night at Las Lagunas Theatre in Mijas Costa. Bringing an end to a varied May programme at the theatre, the Companía Lírica Teatro del Arte will perform 'Apolo y Jacinto' (Apollo et Hyacinthus) - one of W. A. Mozart's first operas, based on the Greek mythology characters, which he wrote when he was 11 years old.
The Companía Lírica Teatro del Arte was created in 2006 in Malaga as a theatre school with the aim of spreading music, theatre and dance to the general public at the same time as they trained their students; through didactic concerts and small and medium productions which has led to larger projects such as operas, zarzuelas and musicals. They also have organised events to introduce music, theatre and dance to new publics such as children.
They have also been pioneers in making fusions with baroque opera and ballet in 2006/7 in their show “De Vuelta al Barroco”. The group has recovered traditional music and dance from the 18th century receiving excellent critics and congratulations from their public.

June at Las Lagunas Theatre starts with a children's theatre production on Sunday 1st called 'La Vida de un Piojo Llamado Matías' (The life of a nit called Matías). Later in the month (June 14th) the much awaited Rafael Álvarez 'El Brujo' will take to the stage with his own special form of humour and way of telling things just as he sees them.
