Environmentalists have expressed their concern at the presence of another nuclear submarine in Gibraltar, this time belonging to the United States Navy. The USS Florida (SSGN-728) arrived in the port of the Rock at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and, according to the group Verdemer - Ecologistas en Acción, carries MK-48 torpedoes and 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles in 22 groups of seven. The group’s spokesperson, Antonio Muñoz, pointed out that all of the Town Halls in the Campo de Gibraltar, as well as the Cadiz Provincial Government and the Mancomunidad de Municipios for the Campo de Gibraltar, had opposed the repairing or docking of nuclear submarines in Gibraltar. He recalled the case of the “Tireless”, the nuclear submarine repaired in Gibraltar in 2001, which caused a public outcry.
